Blue Light Blocking Glasses: Buying Guide

We take a look at the best blue light blocking glasses based on price, blue light blocking strength, construction, overall value and more. Our number 1 choice should be surprise, but we did our best to as unbiased as possible. Starting off our list at number 1:

NoBlue Originals by Hack Your Sleep

-Price: 9
-Blue Blocking Strength: 10
-Construction: 9
-Computer and Gaming Use: 7
-Look and Style: 8
-Overall Value: 10

We are a little biased but, we believe these are the best pair of blue light blocking glasses for the price. We originally designed this pair with the thought that we needed a true pair on the market that blocks all of the blue light (99.9%) and didn't look completely stupid. At the time these were launched in 2015, the only real options were the blu blockers and the UVEX. The UVEX are huge safety glasses and the blu blocker brand seemed to be a little overpriced. So we designed these to hit that market in between. A good looking pair that will get the job done, and not cost $40 plus.

The NoBlue Originals are not the most stylish, I'm going to wear these to dinner glasses; but they aren't meant for that. This is the pair you wear 1-2 hours before bed in the comfort of your home. The wrap around lens design will block most of the bad light from entering your eyes. Most pairs on the market are a "wayfarer" style that may look better wearing in public, but not exactly perfect for wearing at home before bed. If you're going to block blue light, why wouldn't you wear a lens that wraps around and blocks all of the light? The wayfarer styles simply cannot do this...

Other Benefits: We have friends that swear by these for shooting glasses. There are studies that show your vision is clearer while blocking blue light. These glasses are certified ANSI and are perfect for the casual shooter getting in some target practice.

We also have friends that wear these while riding. Whether it's an ATV or motorcycle, the NoBlues are great for these riding situations. Some reviewers have even commented on the colors matching that of the Harley Davidson company.

NoBlue Blue Light Blocking Glasses 2nd Gen by Hack Your Sleep

-Price: 10
-Blue Blocking Strength: 10
-Construction: 9
-Computer and Gaming Use: 7
-Look and Style: 9
-Overall Value: 10

We designed these for the people who loved the full strength blue blocking lenses of our original pair, but want a more stylish frame to wear in public situations. These are made with the exact lens as the original NoBlue's. We also designed these with the TR90 frame and a 1.2mm lens thickness, instead of the standard 1.8mm lens thickness. This makes the 2nd generation of NoBlue's a lighter, yet still sturdy pair of blue light blocking glasses.

We believe these are the best "wayfarer" style of blue light blocking glasses as far as price and ability goes. There are plenty of pricier versions that are blocking less blue light.

NoBlue Blue Light Blocking Glasses 2nd Gen Computer/Gaming Lens by Hack Your Sleep

-Price: 10
-Blue Blocking Strength: 7
-Construction: 9
-Computer and Gaming Use: 10
-Look and Style: 9
-Overall Value: 10

These blue blocking glasses are designed exactly the same as the previously mentioned 2nd generation of NoBlue's, but with a lighter lens.
If you read our Amazon reviews, you will see that the only complaint we ever see is the "darkness" of the lens. This darkness is needed to block out the full spectrum of blue light, but we decided to make a lighter pair to use during the day. This pair still blocks out 65-70% of blue light, but is lighter and may be better for some people who want to block blue light while gaming or using their computer.  Our other pairs can still be used for those uses, but the lighter lens may be more preferred. We would recommend using the other pairs before bed, for their full blue light blocking abilities, and using this pair during the day or possibly while driving.

This pair is also designed with the lightweight TR90 frame and 1.2mm lens.

NoBlue Fitovers by Hack Your Sleep

-Price: 9
-Blue Blocking Strength: 10
-Construction: 9
-Computer and Gaming Use: 7
-Look and Style: 7
-Overall Value: 10

This pair is still in design and production and will be released within the next 60-90 days. We have tested the other brands fitovers and most are downright terrible, barely blocking any blue light. We will be launching a pair with the same blue light blocking abilities as our previous pairs.
We will be setting up a pre-order link here soon.

Swannies by Swanwick Sleep

-Price: 3
-Blue Blocking Strength: 7
-Construction: 10
-Computer and Gaming Use: 9
-Look and Style: 9
-Overall Value: 7

The "Swannies" are definitely our favorite pair after the Hack Your Sleep brand, but the pricing is high. You are paying $69.99 for a pair of blue light blocking glasses, that doesn't fully block blue light. These seem to block about 70% of blue light from our testing.
The one thing we can't argue you with is the construction and style. These are made with a hinge lens and the same frame material found in high end sunglasses, such as Ray Bans.  Basically if you want something a little fancier and can afford the price, the "swannies" will be just fine. They don't have the full wrap around lens, so we would recommend these as a good pair to wear while at the office or out for an evening dinner.  If the price is too high for you or you are just starting out in your blue blocking journey check out our HYS 2nd Gen light lens glasses listed above.
We consider the "swannies" a top option and they are wonderfully constructed, but we just can't fully justify the price.

Uvex Skyper

-Price: 10
-Blue Blocking Strength: 10
-Construction: 5
-Computer and Gaming Use: 7
-Look and Style: 3
-Overall Value: 8

This is a great pair to start your blue blocking journey with based on the price. They block about 99% of blue light. The only real issue is the style and comfortability. This is where we feel the Hack Your Sleep pairs are superior. The UVEX get the blue light blocking job done, but are not appealing and the design is not very comfortable. We would recommend these is you are skeptical about blue light blocking benefits and would like to try a cheap pair before hopefully upgrading to a better pair of blue light blocking glasses.

Blu Blockers

-Price: 6
-Blue Blocking Strength: 9
-Construction: 9
-Computer and Gaming Use: 7
-Look and Style: 9
-Overall Value: 7.5

The Blu Blockers brand was probably the first brand to offer a stylish pair of blue light blocking glasses. The different styles and frames are great, but still somewhat overpriced. Our only real issue is the pricing. Plenty of options that will block most of the blue light at a cheaper price.

Spectra479

-Price: 6
-Blue Blocking Strength: 7
-Construction: 8
-Computer and Gaming Use: 7
-Look and Style: 8
-Overall Value: 7

These are a very good pair that seem to block out 75% or so of blue light. They are a little pricier than our brand, but still not horribly expensive.

Eyekeeper Readers

-Price: 9
-Blue Blocking Strength: 3
-Construction: 7
-Computer and Gaming Use: 6
-Look and Style: 7
-Overall Value: 6

The eyekeepers are very well priced and it's a nice option to have the readers available. These are very lacking in blue blocking strength, in the 35% range. These would be a decent pair to wear at work, as they are stylish and lightly colored lenses. The issue is there isn't much benefit on the blue blocking spectrum. These could be a decent pair to use to ease your way into blue light blocking.

Cyxus

-Price: 7
-Blue Blocking Strength: 4
-Construction: 7
-Computer and Gaming Use: 6
-Look and Style: 7
-Overall Value: 6

The Cyxus brand has plenty of styles and frames, but they also lack in blue light blocking ability. We would echo the same things as the eyekeepers details for the Cyxus brand. The positive is the options in frames, but remember they blue light blocking ability is below average.
